On Jan 15, the “Amorita”, pulled up next to the fishing trawler " Ming Horng Yu 123" and flashed its lights, but no one responded. None of the 11 aboard the boat has responded to radio calls as well as to signals from the vessel which had responded to the Coast Guard's call for help. Ocean conditions were rough, with seas 37 feet and winds 39 mph, gusting to 49 mph.

The "Amorita" on Jan 15, 2011, diverted course to offer assistance to the distressed Taiwanese trawler " Ming Horng Yu 123". It was estimated they would reach the search area about 5 a.m. The "Amorita" was responding to the call for help under the Automated Mutual-Assistance vessel Rescue Program.after the EPIRB of the fishing vessel was activated in the North Pacific Jan 14 at 4 a.m. 1,500 miles northwest of Oahu. The Coast Guard was unable to contact the vessel, but confirmed with the vessel owner there are 11 people aboard. Watchstanders relayed a call for assistance to vessels in the area though the use of SafteyNET, a satellite based communication system which provides critical information to vessels.
