Barge crew did not notice collision with fishing boat
The "Jane Virgo" was involved in the sinking of an eight meter long fishing boat off Charles Point, which left four men in the water for 90 minutes. The crew of the ship saw nothing in the path of the barge even though the ship’s master was on watch during the time frame of the incident. The first they became aware of the incident was when they received a distress call from the men who had been on the other vessel. The "Jane Virgo" remained in the area to relay message between the men and the Darwin Harbour Pilot until the pilot stood them down and they continued on their way. The Shorebarge company and the NT Water Police spoke to the crew following the arrival in Darwin in the morning of May 25, 2016. The company was assisting police with their inquiries and had given police full access to the vessel, crew and records. Police was yet to find the wreckage of the fishing vessel.
