Bottom touch off Massena
The 'Federal Ems' suffered an engine failure and touched the bottom in the St. Lawrence River in front of Massena, St. Lawrence County, on Sep 10, 2020, at 6 a.m. The ship was proceeding downstream en route from Thunder Bay to Montreal when it got stuck west of Eisenhower Lock. It dropped anchor outside the fairway where it did not hamper passing ship traffic. Navigation, which had been suspended for other ships in the area, resumed in the night of Sep 10. On Sep 11 it was moored in pos. 44° 58.41' N 074° 53.00' W. Divers began a survey of the bottom of the vessel to look for any damage. After engine repairs the ship resumed its voyage and arrived in Montreal on Sep 12 at 9.50 a.m. The cause of the incident was under investigation.
