Samjin detained in Tauranga due to suspected collision

Wed May 15 11:53:53 CEST 2013 Timsen

The f/v "Commission" was limping in to the port of Tauranga in the afternoon of May 15, 2013, after it was involved in a collision possibly with the "Samjin" 20 km off East Cape on May 13, 2013, around 3 a.m. Officials would talk to the skipper, and examine the "Commission" as part of their investigations. The "Samjin" had been ordered to remain in the port of Tauranga too after it had berthed on May 13 at 11.15 p.m. while investigations were carried out. The vessel had been detained when a ship tracking system found it had been in the area at the time of the crash. The "Samjin" was carrying logs after sailing from Port Chalmers in Dunedin. The cargo ship was expected to leave the Port of Tauranga around 10 p.m. heading for Zhangzhou, China. It was originally scheduled to leave at 3.30 p.m. Report with photo: http://www.sunlive.co.nz/news/44032-samjin-free-to-sail.html
