Dock lost by tug drifting off Bermuda

Sat Jun 09 17:53:13 CEST 2018 Timsen

A large floating steel section, believed to belong to a floating dock, which broke lose from the "De Zhou" enroute from the United States to the Canary Islands, currently were bothering ship traffic to Bermuda. Authorities asked ships to keep a sharp lookout. The floating sections were not identified with certainty, but they were believed to originate from a floating dock previously owned by the Avondale Shipyard. The yard, located on the Mississippi River, sold the floating dock in autumn 2017 and was taken in tow by the "De Zhou". On its way to the Canaries, the convoy was hit by the hurricane Irma, and when the "De Zhou" reached the Canary Islands, only half of the dock was left. The "De Zhou" moored off Vega de San José at Las Palmas on June 9, 2018, at 12.15 p.m.
