Bulkcarrier disabled off Las Palmas
On Aug 18, 2019, the "Bright Kowa", while en route from Las Palmas to Oran, suffered an engine damage off the Canary Islands 16 miles off La Isleta and asked for assistance. Salvamento Marítimo tasked the SAR ship "Miguel de Cervantes" (IMO: 9320116)from Las Palmas to assist. A towing connection was established, but during the following towage the crew of the freighter managed to fix the damage, and the SAR ship could be released. The "Bright Kowa" resumed its voyage with an ETA as of Aug 22. Man fell into cargo hold
Houston firefighters pulled a man to safety who fell into a hold of the "Bright Kowa" on the Houston Ship Channel on Oct 29. 2015. Rescuers wre being lowered into the cargo hold near Industrial and Miles, and the man was lifted via a rescue basket just before 11:30 a.m. He was then was taken away by ambulance. The worker was helping move pipe when the cargo shifted and he fell into the hold. The man was said to be alert and conscious as he was being rescued.
