Fuel leaked during bunkering operations in Elevsis port, Greece

Thu Jan 28 10:47:02 CET 2016 arnekiel

Fuel leaked during bunkering operations in Elevsis port, Greece. The general cargo ship Athina P was receiving fuel from a bunkering tanker Agia Kiriaki, when the pipe started leaking and the oil spilled in the water. There was sufficient leak and pollution after the spillage and the oil spot covered around 100 sq m. The local authorities were informed about the accident and dispatched boat with oil collection equipment, which surrounded the spot with oil boom spill containment. The water cleaning was started immediately and the spread was restricted. The stop was no allowed to reach the shore and to affect seriously the marine ecosystem. The local authorities detained the both ships, as their masters and chief engineers were arrested during investigation. The reason for the oil leak is still unknown, but according to preliminary information the bunkering pipe imploded and several tons of oil spilled on board of the general cargo ship and in the water. http://www.newsmaritime.com/2016/fuel-leaked-during-bunkering-operations-in-elevsis-port-greece/
