Stabbing incident off Mayo

One man was fighting for his life and another man has been arrested after a stabbing incident on board the "Afric Star" in the Atlantic in the morning of Sep 18, 2014. The Sligo 118 Coast Guard rescue helicopter was despatched to the vessel 240 miles off the Mayo coast following a radio call to Malin Head Coast Guard station in which the ship’s captain reported one of his crew was seriously injured after being stabbed. First aid was administered to the 26-year-old Ukrainian national aboard the "Afric Star" which was en route from St. Petersburg to Cristabel. The ship’s captain, who raised the alarm with the UK Coast Guard in Falmouth, reported that he had detained a 32-year-old Ukrainian crew member as a result of the stabbing incident. The UK authorities asked the Coast Guard to handle the incident.
