Protesters tried to block ZIM ship
A picket line of Palestinian protesters was preparing to meet the 'ZIM San Diego' which has been anchored in Elliott Bay for more than a week — once it docks in Seattle early on June 12, 2021, in an attempt to block the ship’s unloading following recent deadly clashes in the Middle East. The vessel, owned and operated by Israeli shipping company ZIM, was scheduled to dock in Seattle on June 2. Falastiniyat teamed up with other Seattle-based organizers in response to a call from labour unions in Palestine and a call to action by the Arab Resource and Organizing Center, following the escalation of violence in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It was unclear which kind of cargo the ship was carrying. Protesters were planning to meet at Bridge Gear Park on Harbor Island around 5:30 a.m. and set up their picket line at Terminal 18, where the vessel was scheduled to dock. It finally berthed at the SSA Terminal 18 Container Terminal around noon.
Auxiliary engine failure off Vancouver Island
The 'Zim San Diego' suffered a failure of one of its four auxiliary engines in position 48 42 37.2 N, 126 31 47.8 W off the west coast of Vancouver Island on Dec 4, 2019, at 8.30 p.m. The vessel was issued a flag state dispensation letter. It arrived at Roberts Bank on Dec 9 at 1.30 p.m. On Dec 11 the ship sailed again, headed to Seattle with an ETA as of Dec 11. It berthed at the SSA Terminal 18 Container Terminal at 11.20 p.m. the same day.
