Scalloper on fire off Lizard

Wed Sep 04 11:35:56 CEST 2013 Timsen

On Aug 30 at 4 p.m. the "Vanquish" suffered an engine room fire approximately two miles south of Lizard Point. The RNLI lifeboat of the Lizard Station was launched with a crew of seven after the fishing vessel with five people onboard had broadcast a Pan Pan message reporting the fire. The sea conditions on scene were calm and the lifeboat very quickly located the fishing vessel. The vessels crew had shut all the hatches and isolated the boats fuel and believed the fire was now extinguished. Two members of the lifeboat crew were placed onboard the "Vanquish2 with a pump to assist with boundary cooling around the outside of the engine room and to provide assistance in setting up a towline. The "Vanquish" then was towed to Newlyn, arriving off the port just before 8 p.m,. however the lifeboat and fishing vessel were forced to spend a couple of hours standing off the harbour entrance unable to enter. The vessel had its beams lowered and without the use of its hydraulics was unable to raise them to get through the harbour entrance. After much deliberation it was decided that the vessel would have to remain outside of the harbour. The Penlee RNLI lifeboat then took over and towed the boat to a safe anchorage until the owners of the vessel were able to arrange recovery. The crew remained aboard the scalloper until they were able to move the vessel alongside the quay in Newlyn to effect repairs. Fire during repair work

Tue Jun 25 11:52:10 CEST 2013 Timsen

On June 24, 2013, a fire broke out in the fish hold of the "Vanquish - B 74" during welding work in the port of Urk. There was significant damage partly due to the heavy smoke. The cutter had come from Irish waters to the port of Urk for repairs of a leakage in the fish hold and general maintenance. No one was injured, and the fire brigade of Urk was able to douse the fire. Vanquish towed to Holyhead

Wed Mar 27 12:31:26 CET 2013 Timsen

The Moelfre RNLI lifeboat “Robert & Violet” was launched obn Mar 27, 2013, at 12:15 p.m. to assist the "Vanquish" with seven people on board which had sustained gear box failure 16 miles off Moelfre. The Moelfre RNLI lifeboat crew located the fishing vessel 45 minutes after launching into the 20 knot strong North Easterly wind and rough sea. The vessel was under tow by another fishing vessel who was struggling as she was far smaller than the casualty vessel. A tow rope was passed to the casualty and the slow tow commenced towards Holyhead. However the tow rope had to be re-established during the towing operation when it parted under the strain due to the sheer size of the vessel and the rough weather conditions. The Moelfre RNLI lifeboat transferred the tow to the Holyhead RNLI lifeboat who continued the tow to Holyhead.
