Fire on trawler in Montevideo
On July 9, 2018, at 02:40 a.m. a fire broke out in the cabin area of the "Juvel" at pier 11 in the port of Montevideo, and caused intense smoke development. One crew member suffered smoke intoxication and was treated by mobile emergencies, before hewas transferred to the Maciel hospital. The accumulation of toxic gases and smoke made the fire fighting work complicated. The fire brigade worked jointly with the "Banco Ortiz" of the National Navy as well as port tugs and gained control of the fire in the run of the day. After it was finally put out at 4.30 p.m. firefighters jointly with representatives of Aker BioMarine evaluate the situation aboard the ship which was said to be stable. The "Juvel" has been moored in port since Feb 16. Juvel rescues 97 crewmembers from burning chinese fishfactory Kai Xin
A Chinese factory fishing ship caught fire Wednesday, April 17 just off the coast of Antarctica and 97 crew members were rescued by a nearby Norwegian vessel as Chile's military mobilized to prevent any environmental damage. The crew members abandoned the burning Kai Xin and were taken aboard the Juvel about 34 miles (55 kilometers) from Chile's Bernardo O'Higgins research base near the northern tip of the Antarctic peninsula, Chilean officials said. The ship was not immediately at risk of sinking, and nearby vessels could tow it away from the Antarctic coast if necessary, officials said.
