Supplier sent to sea because of high swell
Port Taranaki staff had to quickly get vessels out of port when a large swell hit the harbour in the night of May 6, 2013. The swell, which got to as high as 3.5 metres off the port, was in such a direction that it began to affect vessels tied up at the wharves. This caused staff to send the methanol tanker "Golden Chie" and the "Pacific Parrot" out to sea as a precautionary measure to protect ships and wharves from damage. After the swell dropped again, operations were to be resumed again at daylight on May 7.
