Five stowaways and drugs found on board
After the 'Düsseldorf Express' was approached by rubber boat on Jan 9, while waiting for port clearance in Cartagena, law enforcement teams boarded the ship and found five people who were believed to be stowaways. Anti narcotics units meanwhile checked containers and found 51 packages containing 1.539 kilos of high purity cocaine, plus five kilos of synthetic drug amphetamines. The ship berthed at Cartagena the same day and left port on Jan 10, bound for Tangier. No crew arrests were reported.
Duesseldorf Express delayed for 7 days due to technical problems
Hapag-Lloyd informs about the current delay of its Mediterranean Pacific Service (MPS) – “Duesseldorf Express” due to technical Problems. "We regret to inform you that the “Duesseldorf Express” experienced technical problems on her current westbound voyage. Due to the necessary repairs as well as the missed Panama Canal transit the vessel will be delayed by about 7 days," a statement from the company says. Appropriate schedule recovery measures will be taken in order to bring the vessel back into the longterm schedule position on her next westbound sailing in order to ensure our reliable weekly service. First Grand Alliance vessel arrives at Port of Tacoma
Instead of turning left at Elliott Bay, the 66,000-ton containership Dusseldorf Express continued steaming south on Monday afternoon, headed for Tacoma. This was the “first call” to Commencement Bay for the ship, and for the Grand Alliance of three primary shipping lines that once called at the Port of Seattle. According to the dictates of maritime etiquette and tradition, there followed a ceremony to mark the moment as officials from the Port of Tacoma, the longshore union, Washington United Terminal and the shipping line Hapag-Lloyd met on the bridge and later in the officers’ mess to exchange greetings.
