Engine trouble in Kiel Canal

On March 6, 2020, at 4.10 p.m. the 'Ventura' while transiting the Kiel Canal eastbound enroute from Teesport to Klaipeda with an ETA as of March 8, suffered an engine failure. It had left the Brunsbüttel locks coming from the Elbe at 2.20 p.m. The two tugs 'Felix' and 'Helmut' were deployed from Brunsbüttel and towed the disabled vessel back to the canal port in Brunsbüttel where it was moored at the railway station pilings. The ship was detained until repairs were carried out and a class inspection has taken place by the attending classification society. The ship sailed again after repairs and a class inspection in the night of March 7 and reached the locks in Kiel on March 8 at 12.30 a.m. The ETA in Klaipeda was nowMarch 9, 8 p.m.

Cargo remainders in Kiel smouldering again

While the "Ventura" was heading for Casablanca, the fire rescue of Kiel was alerted to the East Shore Port again on Dec 25. The stored beed Pulp had started smouldering again. Customs officers remarked smoke emerging from the pile which was then driven apart and the embers put out.

Fire in Kiel extinguished

On Dec 19 at 2 a.m. the fire on the "Ventura" was out. More than 50 fire fighters from Kiel and the volunteer forces Dietrichsdorf and Elmschenhagen were involved. On Dec 18 the ship accident command in Cuxhaven had taken the lead of the Operation and decided to fight the fire ath the quay in port. The ship berthed in the East Shore Port in Kiel escorted by the police boats "Falshöft“ and „Neumühlen“ and assisted by the tug "Holtenau" at 9 p.m. The cargo was unloaded onto the quay with a special digger of the Burmann Company, where the fire fighters extinguished th smouledering pellets with water. Short before midnight the fire was reported out. The ship which suffered little damage in the fire, left Kiel port and resumed its voyage to Casablanca on Dec 21 at 10.40 p.m. and re-entered the Kiel Canal, having actually reached Brunsbüttel.
