Crewman deceased off Table Bay

Wed Jun 04 09:52:33 CEST 2014 Timsen

On May 28 at 8.30 p.m. the NSRI Table Bay volunteer sea rescue duty crew was activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority following a request for medical assistance from the "Strategic Encouter" which was en route from Durban to Argentina, reporting a 28 year old crewman on board suspected to be suffering an asthma attack and short of breath. The NSRI Table Bay volunteer sea rescue duty crew, accompanied by WC Government Health EMS rescue paramedics, launched othe lifeboat "Spirit of Vodacom" and responded. On arrival on-scene, five nautical miles off Table Bay Port, an NSRI rescue crewman and an EMS rescue paramedic were transferred aboard the ship. Sadly the man, believed to be from Myanmar, was confirmed to be deceased. The owners of the ship and their ships agents arranged transportation and care of the body of the deceased.
