Fire in engine room
On Mar 6, 2016, around 11 p.m. a fire broke out in a generator inside the engine room the "Rezat", 1669 ts (EU-No.: 04401240), on the Danube-Canal near Kelheim underneath the lock Gronsdorf where the ship was bertehed. The master of a passing vessel remarked the fire at 11.15 p.m. and alerted the fire rescue, the crew and personnel of the lock. On Mar 7 at 12.30 a.m. the fire could be extinguished by the fire rescue of Kelheim and Ihrlerstein, the technical support work THW, the water guard, water police, emergency service and the DLRG with on the whole 128 men. The ship was complicated to access at its berth, and freezing temperatures outside were contrasted by strong heat inside. Before the fire fighters could enter the engine room, it first had to be ventilated. One crew member was treated for smoke inhalation. The barge had loaded 1250 tons soy grist. The canal was barred for ship traffic between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. The police launched an investigation. Damage to the ship was estimated to be saround 50000 Euro.
