Cruise ship embarked passengers from Celestyal Journey in Las Palmas

Mon Feb 26 10:59:53 CET 2024 Timsen

On Feb 25 the 'Amera' resumed service and left the port of Las Palams following a two-month delay to a major refurbishment and modernization project. After spending several months at a shipyard in Gdansk, the vessel embarked the passengers currently sailing onboard the 'Celestyal Journey'. Chartered to Phoenix Reisen, the 'Celestyal Cruises'Ä took over part of Amera’s 2023-24 World Cruise – which was scheduled to sail in December – when the ship’s drydock was first delayed. The ship is set to offer a revised itinerary across South America before resuming the original schedule of the global voyage. The changes to the original route were necessary due to the geopolitical situation in the Red Sea, which the Amera would need to cross in order to offer the planned itinerary. Instead, the ship is now sailing to various destinations in South America and the Atlantic Ocean, such as Mindelo and Praia, in Cape Verde; Recife and Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, and Montevideo. The 'Amera' will also be visiting Chile and sail around the Cape Horn before resuming its original itinerary in Peru in mid-April. As part of the World Cruise’s original schedule, the vessel is set to visit additional destinations in South America, the Caribbean, North America and Northern Europe on its way to Germany. After completing the world cruise in mid-May, the 'Amera' is set to offer departures from Bremerhaven. During its recent drydock, the 834-guest ship underwent a major modernization project that included the replacement of its main engines, in addition to updates to electrical systems, propellers and machinery. The ship also saw upgrades to its hotel facilities, with bathroom refurbishments in several passenger cabins, as well as new carpeting, upholstery and more.

Cruise ship berthed in Kiel after extended yard stay ahead of resuming operations

Thu Feb 15 11:20:29 CET 2024 Timsen

On Feb 9, 2024, the 'Amera' has finally left the Remontowa shipyard in Gdansk after a significantly extended stay. Until Feb 13, trials were carried out on the Baltic Sea, as the extensive changes to the ship also required acceptance by the classification society. In the last four months, the cruise ship has received, among other things, new engines, new propellers, bow thrusters and a shore connection. Due to delivery delays for essential components, there was a significant delay in the delivery of the ship. On Feb 13 the ship berthed at the Ostsee Quay in Kiel shortly after 9 a.m. for an operational stopover to bunker food and accommodate crew. Guest operations will start on Feb 24 in Gran Canaria. On Feb 15 at 10 p.m. the 'Amera' will leave Kiel again and sail through the Kiel Canal before setting course for Gran Canaria. During the crossing, which lasts a little more than a week, the ship is prepared for the passengers who will soon board. In Las Palmas the cruise ship is scheduled to resume cruise operations at a simultaneous meeting with the replacement ship 'Celestyal Journey', which Phoenix Reisen chartered due to the extension of the the 'Amera''s shipyard stay. The ship swap is scheduled to take place on Feb 24.

Trip round the world ended early as cruise ship is still in Gdansk shipyard

Thu Jan 18 19:24:09 CET 2024 Timsen

A 143-day trip around the world with Phoenix Travels ends in the Seychelles as the “Amera”, planned for the trip, is still at the Remontowa shipyard in Gdansk, and the replacement ship “Celestyal Journey” that was used for the start, must be returned to the owner. This means that there is now no vessel for the continuation of the world trip planned until May. The reason for the longer stay in the shipyard was supply chain problems with necessary components, so that the “Amera” could not start in December on time and is supposed to be delivered on Feb 10, 2024, now. Phoenix had chartered a replacement ship from the Greek shipping company Celestyal Cruises, with which at least the first part of the world trip from Genova to Cape Town and then to the Seychelles could be carried out, but Phoenix has to return the ship to Celestyal because the company The ship will be used for cruises in the Mediterranean from spring onwards and therefore the charter contract cannot be extended for the remaining travel time. Phoenix has now announced that the trip with the “Celestyal Journey” in its current form will end in Victoria in the Seychelles on Feb 2. The journey could be continued later from Gran Canaria on the “Amera”, however, on a different route. Phoenix now offers its guests different options for the next few weeks.
