Engine room fire contained by crew
On Apr 22, 2014, at 10:25 a.m. a fire broke out in the engine room of the "Orava", 1201 ts (EU-No. 02318644), in Merwede at the height of the 1st port. The KNRM boat "Tjepke Ekkelboom" was alerted, also the fireboat "Zuid Holland", the patrol boat "RWS21" of Rijkswaterstaat and the "RPA01" of the Port of Rotterdam were quickly on the spot. The skipper had been able to moor the ship at the quay in the Papendrecht Street in Dordrecht with the bow thruster. The fire in the engine meanwhile was extinguished by the crew of the barge with powder extinguishers. The crewmembers of the fireboat found that the fire was completely out.
