Fire on tanker on Ijssel Sea
In the afternoon of Jan 19, 2017, the "Mars", 498 ts (ENI-No.: 3270606), caught fire on the Ijssel Sea two miles off the coast at the height of the Oude Zeug port in Wieringerwerf. The barge was enroute from Den Oever to Enkhuizen. The crew of two was unable to extinguish the fire in the engine. The situation was dangerous, as the tanker was not degassed. Sveral lifeguards and the fire brigade were alerted. Several KNRM boats headed for the tanker, and the fire department in Enkhuizen was on spot too. The tanker was empty, but usually transpored gasoil. The lifeboat "Bernardine“ of the KNRM-Station Medemblik took off the crew, while the "’t Span" from Andijk, the "Johanna Margaretha" from Den Oever and both the "Watersport“ and "Corrie Dijkstra van Elk“ from Enkhuizen assisted the fire rescue. The barge was towed to the Oude Zeug port, where the fire could be tackled with more equipment. In the evening it was put out. The ship was then ventilated. The Inspectie Leefmilieu & Transport (IL&T) detained the ship for inspections.
