Difficult fire fighting on grounded tanker

The 'Layar Anggun 8' which caught fire in the waters of Tanjung Berakit, Teluk Sebong District, on the afternoon of April 16, ran aground at 3.18 p.m. WIB after being abandoned by the crew. The Tanjung Uban Maritime and Coast Guard Base Office (PPLP) together with the KRI were mobilized to the ship, which was stuck in 617″ N 104 30′ 050 E at Tanjung Berakit Bintan. The 'KN.Rantos P210' and 'KN Sarotama P.112' provided assistance at 8 p.m. Also the 'KN.Rantos P210' attended as of April 17. Upon their arrival, the fire was still burning, and smoke could still be seen at the stern of the tanker. The 'KN.Rantos P210' tried to get closer to ship to extinguish the fire, but this attempt failed due to the shallow water. Instead, two rubber boats were deployed to extinguish the fire using an alcon pump. The fire was finally extinguished at 10 p.m., but reignited half an hour later. On April 17 at 1.20 a.m. the fire was still burning, so the KRI 'Lepu 861' also lowered a rubber boat to help extinguish the fire. At 4 a.m. the fire was finally put out. The 'KN Rantos P210', 'KN Sarotama P112' and 'KRI Lepu 861' returned to standby to monitor and secure the ship. From 08.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. the remaining embers were extinguished and cooled using an alcohol pump, until it was confirmed that the fire in the accomodation block of on the heavily damaged ship had really been extinguished. Abandoned tanker drifting in Malaysian waters

The Johor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has confirmed that the 'Layar Anggun 8', which had caught fire on April 16, was drifting in Malaysian waters. Tthe incident occurred at a position 5.6 nautical miles southeast of Pulau Lima, Johor. The Maritime Rescue Sub Centre (MRSC) had deployed their assets after receiving a report. However, upon their arrival, the ship was nowhere to be found, as the 12 castaways had already been rescued by the Singapore Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) 9.5 nautical miles east of Tanjung Punggai, Johor. Subsequently, the MMEA, through the Johor Baru MRSC, arranged for an MMEA ship and patrol boat to the location of the incident, but the reported ship was not there. At around 4.30 p.m., the MRSC Johor Baru received confirmation that the tanker had drifted into the waters of Bintan Island. Ship abandoned after fire off Singapore

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) was notified on April 16, 2024, of a fire aboard the 'Layar Tanggun 8' in Singapore territorial waters off Pedra Branca. All 12 crew members have been safely recovered by a Singapore Police Coast Guard craft and were transported to Singapore.. A firefighting vessel from the Singapore Civil Defence Force and MPA patrol craft, including tugs, were mobilized to combat the fire. No pollution was reported, and there was no immediate risk to navigational safety. The MPA was issuing regular navigational broadcasts for passing vessels to keep clear of the vicinity of the burning ship.
