Explosion and fire off Hong Kong
The "Chuang Sheng Hai" suffered an explosion in the afternoon of May 16, 2018, in pos. 22 06 N 114 00 E west of Dangazhen in the Wanshan Archipelago, south of Hong Kong. One of the 12 crew members was killed, the others were rescued by nearby ships. The SAR ship "Nanhaijiu 116" (IMO: 9607485) was sent to salvage the ship. The explosion occurred in the engine room, followed by a fire which spread to the superstructure. The ship by that time was loaded, with cement in bulk. In the morning of May 17 the fire was brough under control. When a five headed emergency team boarded the ship, there was a second explosion of a gas tank.
